US Spec 1983 FJ40

Because of their rarity, The US Spec 1983 FJ40 has been called “The Holy Grail of Land Cruisers” Examples of them rarely come up for sale, and when they do, they don’t last long. There were only about 300 of them sold in the US, and less than 50 of those had both factory options of power steering and air conditioning. It’s impossible to know how many of the original 300 remain, but it’s easy to imagine that most of them have been destroyed, modified, or compromised in some way. That’s why many enthusiasts consider the model to be the most collectible four-wheel-drive of all time.

This is truly a very unique opportunity to own this incredibly rare Toyota Land Cruiser, and also possibly the best, and lowest mile,  non-restored example left in the United States.

It is extremely important to myself and to the owner of this FJ40 that it go to a good home. This vehicle is the truest form of a “collectors item.” That doesn’t mean that it can’t and shouldn’t be driven, but it needs to be preserved. Treated correctly, this investment will continue to appreciate into the future.

US Spec 1983 FJ40

It would be hard to imagine a better example of this already incredibly rare Toyota Land Cruiser. This FJ40 is unrestored and has been very well taken care of. It is rust free and only minor patina on the original finish exists. The interior is also original and in excellent condition. The current owner has been an excellent steward of this vehicle, performing the necessary maintenance dutifully, and driving the 40 just enough to preserve its value, without letting it suffer the atrophy of sitting unused.

The modifications that are done to the vehicle were likely done by the original owner shortly after purchasing it. These include the CB and Antennas, the stereo components, the winch, and auxiliary lights. There were also auxiliary gas can holders bolted to the inside briefly and the bolts for those remain. The original wheels were also removed early in this Land Cruiser’s life, but were replaced (by us) as a very necessary reset about 10 years ago. I can imagine removing the other modifications, and resetting this to “completely stock” status as the only thing the vehicle needs.
