1988 Turbo Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser BJ71

Nicknamed “Toko Toko” this great little BJ71 is available on consignment

First, a little history. The J70 is the short wheel base Toyota Land Cruiser model that replaced the 40 series worldwide (except here) Initially, Toyota offered the BJ l70 which used the legendary 3B naturally aspirated diesel  engine. Believe it or not, this short wheel base J70 was offered with at least five different engine combinations. The most desirable by far would be this one, the BJ71 with the 13BT turbo diesel. The 13BT is very durable and actually quite powerful… and doesn’t come with the head gasket and overheating problems common with other four cylinder diesels of the time.

Toko Toko’s last owner was an excellent steward of the Land Cruiser and was taking great care of this vehicle both mechanically and cosmetically. It is reliable and fun to drive. There are a couple areas of rust to deal with, the driver side A pillar and passenger side quarter panel, but neither is an emergency and the vehicle is very presentable. 

With good records and excellent owner documentation and notes, this BJ71 is a rare find.
